Continunig upgrading at mainfield, is seeing alot of the old structurs  replaced with new more suited and safer buildings. Over the past 3 years RAMZE DEMOLITION has worked with mainfield pulling down a lot of these buildings so developments can take place.  Humphries Construction got the job to build a new control tower and we got the contract to pull the old tower to bits. Not alot of salvage, just the usual electrical fittings, some good windows, pine T&G flooring and some great long steel beams. The old tower had seen alot of laps in her day, and i bet thousands of people walked underneath!! Because the track is used constantly, the old building was craned down in 1 piece, and  lifted out of the way, so we could demolish in a safe area. 18meters long it was a big haul.

DEMOLISHABULL BUT SALVAGEABULL Print

While working in this town, i noticed all the "bull puns" in the town. So throughout this write up, you will notice i have included alot also!!!

111 Bridge st Bulls

One of the very first supplyabull stores in the town, a dairy was built. Built in the early 1900's it was made from Matai, Totara and Rimu. Still a solid building, but wasn't transportabull or restoreabull for the new owner, just demolishabull. When I first looked at the building for demo, I saw the recycleabull potential. So Ramze Demolition got the contract to pull the building down.  Very unusual wide 8" matai flooring, ceiling and wall T&G was used, but this was representabull of early buildings. Sitting on unbeleivabull Totara piles and a few concrete ones added later. Added on over the years saw extentions to the rear and a lean to on the side. We found an incredibull huge oregon beam in this part, a good 8m long by 20x4inches!! It was a refreshabull cafe for a while and also a fixabull hardware store, but now she makes way for a new submersabull drivethrough Subway.  We found a few bottles under the floor and a prickabull hedgehog, he's now at my place rumaging through more edibull things in the feild!!

June 2007

Built in 1939, this house was built solid and to last. But it was time for her to be recycled for a new modern home to be built. She was a great example of how houses are modified over the years and changes as styles change. When it was time for Ramze Demolition to come and demolish the house she was very different from when she was built. The origional house was a small square house and over time a larger front lounge and back bathroom/wash house had bin built. As we pulled the house apart, the changes were evident, some examples were..

The entire house had bin clad over the villa weatherboard with Decromastic sheeting

Double hung windows removed and replaced with casement windows

Pinex and gib put over the rimu T&G inside

Tin roof placed over a bitumin sarked roof

Wash house and bathroom added on the rear

All interior doors replaced with Rimu verneer hollow core doors

Exterior timber eves filled over with fibrolight

Modern kitchen changes

Most house we pull down have some modification as time goes by. This house was built in a period when tin was scarce so a timber sarked roof with black paper and road tar was used. Before replaced with tin years later. The timber was mint rimu 6x1 so i had run into flooring, which now graces a house in Carlton ave, palmy!!
