FEBURARY 2007

A handsome brick house, built in 1923 on the corner of Featherston and Ngata st, Palmerston North. Crafted with skill and pride by William Mouldey, who owned his own brickworks in Tremain Ave. The house took just over a year to build, and built well. The origonal tiled roof had bin replaced a few years ago with tin, and the garage still has the tiles on. This is a well known house, and stood proud for 84 years. Unfortunity it has to make way for a new development taking place on the whole block. Ramze Demolition has the job of dismantling the house piece by piece to recycle as much as possible. Built from the best timber, heart Rimu and Matai, this house was built ot last. An awesome array of bricks, all sorts of colours and shapes. Allready having great demand from locals that want to add onto their own house with the same age bricks. So many of the bricks will only end up down the street!!! Beautiful rimu doors, pressed tin ceilings and tiled fireplaces, made this an impressive house.

The bricks are held together with a soft lime stone morter, which means easy cleaning. So we will spend 2 weeks on site cleaning bricks so they can be re-used all over the manawatu.

Look in the libraray for Jim Lundy's book 'Nine thousand bricks a day' which gives Palmerston Norths history oF brick houses.
